Wolves FC Excited For Opportunity To Play at Great Park Stadium in Irvine

November 17, 2017 – Los Angeles – L.A. Wolves FC can punch its ticket to its third consecutive Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament with one more victory.
L.A. Wolves FC plays Buena Park FC (USASA) at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19 at the Championship Stadium at OC Great Park (6950 Marina Way, Irvine, CA 92618) in Qualifying Round 3 for the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament.
L.A. Wolves FC President and General Manager Yan Skwara said, “This year’s qualification has flown by in a flash, but we really haven’t had a whole lot of time to think about it because of our busy UPSL schedule and the weight of those games. We’re excited to be playing this game in the Championship Stadium at OC Great Park. It’s a terrific facility that we’d like to see more of in the future, but right now our focus is on Buena Park FC. They’re a talented side with a number of options in the attacking third. We’re going to need to exceed their effort if we’re going to move on in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.”
L.A. Wolves FC, which reached the 2017 U.S. Open Cup Third Round, is unbeaten through eight games (5-0-3 overall) in the UPSL Fall 2017 Season.
L.A. Wolves FC forwards Dmitriy Zhuravlev and Stephen Mongu, goalkeeper Cesar Ortega, midfielders Cesar Rivera, Daniel Baumgartner, and Julio Ortiz, and defenders Mason Klerks and Ruben Rodriguez are all finding their space on the time.
Forward Joseph “Tarzan” Fernandez, midfielders Joel Ampofo, Henry Escobar, Sori Keita, Luis Mora, and defenders Daniel Hubert, Luis Loreto and Shannon Murphy all continue to make key contributions.
Currently among the leaders in the UPSL’s Pro Premier Division Western Conference after a 2-2 draw against SFV Scorpions SC on Sunday, Nov. 12, L.A. Wolves FC next plays OC Invicta FC in a league fixture on Saturday, Dec. 2.
“We have tremendous speed and that’s been a bright spot for us,” Skwara said. “We’ve played in some big game this year but this is mostly a new team this Fall, and we’re trying to teach and develop this group of guys to know what it’s like in pressure situations.”
The club previously defeated Real Sociedad, 6-1, on Sept. 24, 2017 in the Qualifying Round 1, and advanced with a forfeit victory over Irvine-based Vanquish FC in the Qualifying Round 2.
The UPSL Supporter’s Shield winner for the 2017 Spring Season, L.A. Wolves FC joins five fellow United Premier Soccer League teams attempting to qualify for the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
